Alpha Lyncis

Alpha Lyncis (afgekort as α Lyn) is die helderste ster in die noordelike sterrebeeld Rooikat (Lynx), met ’n skynbare magnitude van 3,13.[4] Dit is ongewoon in die sin dat dit die enigste ster in die sterrebeeld met ’n Bayer-naam is.[8] Volgens parallaksmetings is dit sowat 203 ligjare van die Son af.[2]

Dit is ’n reusester wat die waterstof in sy kern opgebruik en weg van die hoofreeks beweeg het. Dit het uitgesit tot sowat 55 keer die radius van die Son en sy ligsterkte is sowat 673 keer die Son s'n.[5] Die geraamde effektiewe temperatuur van sy buitenste skil is 3 882 K,[6] wat laer as die Son s’n van 5 778 K is, en dit gee aan die ster die tipiese oranje kleur van K-tipe sterre.[9]

Alpha Lyncis is vermoedelik ’n veranderlike ster met ’n klein omvang[10] van tussen 3,17 en 3,12 magnitude.[11] Dié soort veranderlikheid kom gewoonlik voor in sterre wat ’n onaktiewe koolstofkern ontwikkel het wat deur ’n skil omring word wat helium verbrand, en dit dui daarop dat Alpha Lyncis besig is om in ’n soort Mira-veranderlike te evolueer.[8]
