Die voël is 20 - 30 cm lank, 120 - 200 g (wyfie: 80 - 140 g) groot met 'n vlerkspan van 50 - 55 cm en kom oor feitlik die hele [[Suider-Afrika]] voor. In Engels staan die voël bekend as die ''Ruff''.
