Die term Indië het veral gebruiklik geword in navolging van die Engelse benaming. Die term Indië is 'n lang tyd gebruiklik in [[België]], maar word na [[Nederlands]] voorbeeld nou ook geleidelik vervang deur Indië. Indië het in die noorde sinoniem geword vir [[Nederlands-Indië]], wat in werklikheid op [[Indonesië]] dui.
