Vanaf die 17de eeu is die Oekraïners "Klein-Russe" genoem en as deel van die Drie-enige Russiese volk beskou, wat uit [[Russe|Groot-Russe]], Klein-Russe asook [[Wit-Russe]] bestaan en uit die Oud-Russiese volk van die [[Kiëf-Roes]] ontwikkel het.
