Eduard Willem Bok
Eduard William Bok (gebore Eduard Willem Gerard Cesar Hidde Bok)[1] (9 Oktober 1863 – 9 Januarie 1930)[1] was 'n Nederlands-gebore Amerikaanse redakteur en bekroonde skrywer. Hy het 'n Pulitzerprys gewen vir sy skryfwerk. Hy was dertig jaar lank redakteur van die Ladies' Home Journal (1889-1919). Hy het ook Bok Tower Gardens in die middel van Florida, V.S.A. opgerig.

Lewe
wysigBok is in Den Helder, Nederland gebore. Op die ouderdom van ses het hy na Brooklyn, New York geïmmigreer. In Brooklyn het hy na skoolure die vensters van 'n bakkery gewas om sy gesin te help. Sy mense was so arm dat hy boonop elke dag met 'n mandjie in die straat uitgaan en stukkies steenkool versamel wat in die geut geval het, waar die steenkoolwaens brandstof gelewer het.[2]
In 1896 trou Bok met Mary Louise Curtis Bok Zimbalist, die dogter van Louisa en Cyrus Curtis.[3]
In 1882 begin Bok werk by Henry Holt and Company. In 1884 raak hy betrokke by Charles Scribner's Sons, waar hy uiteindelik die resensiebestuurder word. Van 1884 tot 1887 was Bok die redakteur van The Brooklyn Magazine, en in 1886 stig hy die Bok Syndicate Press. Nadat hy in 1889 na Philadelphia verhuis het, het hy die redaksie van Ladies Home Journal oorgeneem toe die stigter en redakteur Louisa Knapp Curtis haar tot 'n minder invloedryke rol onttrek het by die gewilde, nasionaalverspreide publikasie. Dit is gepubliseer deur Cyrus Curtis, 'n gevestigde uitgewery wat baie koerante en tydskrifte gepubliseer het.
