View of damage to the Ponte Vecchio from the east. The Germans destroyed all of the bridges over the River Arno with exception of the Ponte Vecchio before evacuating Florence on 11 August 1944. The Ponte Vecchio was blocked by demolishing the houses on both ends and mining the bridge.
