Volgens die vorige punt is dit duidelik dat die bestaan van objektiewe morele waardes nie die gedagte aan morele progressie ontken nie. Dit is duidelik dat sekere dinge in die verlede (soos bv. slawerny) as moreel verkeerd bestempel kan word. Hierdie feit beteken egter nie dat wat moreel objektief is, verander het nie, maar eerder dat ons vermoë om te verstaan wat objektiewe morele waardes is, verbeter het.
Verder bestaan die feit dat mense se morele optrede kan verbeter, ’n objektiewe standaard voorveronderstel ’n maatstaf, waarvolgens iets wat “beter” sou wees, gemeet kan word. As morele waardes nie objektief bestaan nie, dan kan daar slegs van morele verandering gepraat word, maar nie van morele progressie nie. Tog leer ervaring ons dat daar nie bloot morele verandering plaasvind nie, maar progressie.
