Nadat die gesin na Suid-Afrika geïmmigreer het, het Slabolepszy in [[Musina]], [[Polokwane]] en [[Witbank]] grootgeword. Hy wou aanvanklik ’n radiosportkommentator word. Met sy skool se sokkerwedstryde sou hy kommentaar lewer en dit later terugspeel. Dit het gou ’n instelling geword. Omdat hy ’n radioloopbaan wou volg, het hy aan die [[Universiteit van Kaapstad]] ’n graad behaal met [[drama]] en [[Engels]] as hoofvakke. Hy het in dié tyd betrokke geraak in professionele teater. Hy het daarna op toneelspel gefokus. Slabolepszy is een van Suid-Afrika se beste dramaturge en was in 1972 saam met [[Athol Fugard]], [[Yvonne Bryceland]] en [[John Kani]] ’n stigterslid van [[Die Ruimte]]-teater, die land se eerste nierassige teatergeselskap. In 1976 was hy ook ’n stigterslid van Die [[Markteater]] in Johannesburg saam met Mannie Manim en Barney Simon.

Hy het lank saam met die akteur [[Bill Flynn]] gewerk. Hy het oor die jare verskeie toekennings ontvang, onder andere elke toekenning vir beste akteur in 1993 vir sy rol as Eddie in ''The Return of Elvis Du Pisanie'', wat hy self geskryf het. Van die pryse wat die toneelstuk in 1993 gewen het, is die Vita-, Fleur du Cap- en Dalro-teaterprys vir onder meer beste nuwe Suid-Afrikaanse toneelstuk, beste akteur, beste regisseur en beste produksie.
