Die Maynardville-opelugteater is geleë in Wynberg, Kaapstad. Daar word veral Shakespeare-werke opgevoer. Dit word gewoonlik net Maynardville genoem.

Die teater wysig
Die teater is in Maynardville Park van 500 m2 in Wynberg geleë en bied sitplek vir 720 mense. Dit is veral bekend vir sy jaarlikse Shakespeare-in-the-Park en lok in die amper 60 jaar van sy bestaan sowat 20 000 mense per jaar.[1]
Geskiedenis wysig
In die middel 1950's het die aktrises Cecilia Sonnenberg en René Ahrenson besef die park sou ’n ideale opelugteater uitmaak. Hulle het die Kaapstadse stadsraad oorreed om ’n verhoog te bou. Vanaf Desember 1950 is balletopvoerings gehou en in 1956 die eerste Shakespeare-stuk, The Taming of the Shrew.[2]
In 1975 het Sonnenberg en Ahrenson vir vyf jaar met Kruik begin saamwerk. Hulle het daarna afgetree en Kruik het die teater aan die gang gehou. Toe Kruik in die middel 1990's ontbind is, is die Maynardville Theatre Trust gestig om die teater te laat voortleef.
Vandag bied die trust en Kunstekaap steeds klassieke toneel in die teater aan.
