Die 65Cu/63Cu-iostoopverhouding kan in minerale tot 12‰ wissel afhanklik van die geochemiese en fisichemiese prosesse tydens die vorming van die mineraal. Met LA en MC-ICP-MS kan δ65Cu met 'n noukeurigheid van 0,1‰ bepaal word. NIST SRM 976 word dikwels as standaard gebruik.[2]
