Volwasse pofadders word ongeveer 90cm lank in Suid-Afrika, maar kan in Kenia van 1,4m tot 1,8m lank word. Dit is dus Afrika se grootste adder.
== Habitat ==
Pofadders kom regoor Suid-Afrika voor, maar meer algemeen in die suide. Hulle word gewoonlik nie noord van Johannesburg aangetref nie. Pofadders le gedurende die dag gewoonlik op die grond in die son vir warmte.
