Die '''Potvis''' (Latyn: ''Physeter macrocephalus'') is 'n [[walvis]] wat aan die hele [[Suid-Afrika]]anse kuslyn voorkom maar meer in die oop see. Die [[soogdier]] is die grootste van die getande walvisse met 'n enorme, vierkantige kop. Die rugvin is 'n driehoekige boggel. Die bul word tot 18m en die koei 12m lank en hul kan tot 60ton weeg. Die walvis verkies meer die warmer waters en is 'n ongelooflike duiker. Hy kan tot een kilometer diep duik en onder water bly vir 'n uur. Daar is olie in die kop wat ens op 'n tyd gebruik was as 'n smeermiddel.
