Tradisionele kennis
Tradisionele kennis (TK), inheemse kennis (IK),[1] volkskennis en plaaslike kennis verwys oor die algemeen na kennisstelsels wat ingebed is in die kulturele tradisies van streek-, inheemse of plaaslike gemeenskappe.[2]
Tradisionele kennis sluit tipes kennis in oor tradisionele tegnologieë van gebiede soos bestaan (bv. gereedskap en tegnieke vir jag of landbou), verloskunde, etno-plantkunde en ekologiese kennis, tradisionele medisyne, hemelse navigasie, kunsvlytvaardighede, etnoastronomie, klimaat, en ander. Hierdie stelsels van kennis is oor die algemeen gebaseer op ophopings van empiriese waarneming en op interaksie met die omgewing.
In baie gevalle word tradisionele kennis vir geslagte van persoon tot persoon oorgedra, as 'n mondelinge tradisie. Die Wêreldorganisasie vir Intellektuele Eiendom (WIPO) en die Verenigde Nasies (VN) sluit tradisionele kulturele uitdrukkings (TCE) in hul onderskeie definisies van inheemse kennis in. Tradisionele kennissisteme en kulturele uitdrukkings bestaan in die vorme van kultuur, stories, legendes, folklore, rituele, liedjies en wette,[3][4][5] tale, sanglyne, dans, speletjies, mitologie, ontwerpe, beeldende kuns en argitektuur.[6]
