Die Weste of Westerse wêreld verwys na Europa en 'n groep gemeenskaplike lande. Die terme awendland en aandland (Latyn: occidens, "sonsondergang, Weste") verwys na Europa in 'n digterlike konteks. Die idee van 'n Westerse deel van die wêreld begin by die Grieks-Romeinse beskawing, Judaïsme, en Christendom.[1][2][3][4][5] Westerse rasionele en kritiese denke het 'n fondasie in die Atheense demokrasie van antieke Griekeland.[6]

Één definisie van die Westerse wêreld is die Europese Enkelmark plus die Anglosfeer.

Dit kontrasteer met die Ooste, wat die term is wat algemeen geassosieer word met die kulture van lande in Oos-Asië en die Indiese subkontinent.
