Uyinene "Nene" Mrwetyana[1] (20 April 2000 – 24 Augustus 2019)[2][3] [4] was 'n Suid-Afrikaanse student aan die Universiteit van Kaapstad.[5] Op 24 Augustus 2019 is sy in die Claremont-voorstad van Kaapstad verkrag en vermoor. Haar moord het 'n breër nasionale probleem van geslagsgebaseerde geweld en vrouemoord in Suid-Afrika uitgelig[6][7][8] en die moord word gekrediteer met "die verskuiwing van die Suid-Afrikaanse kollektiewe bewussyn"[9] en die aanvuur van 'n protesbeweging.[10]

Mrwetyana is in Oos-Londen vir ouers Noma en Philip Mrwetyana gebore. Sy het grootgeword in die voorstad Beacon Bay in Oos-Londen en was op Hoërskool Hudson Park in Vincent,[11] waar sy op die skool se leerlingraad gedien en die "Hudsonian van die Jaar"-toekenning ontvang het.[12] Mrwetyana het hoërskool by Kingswood College bygewoon waar sy in 2018 gematrikuleer het, en postuum die skool se Neil Aggett-gedenktoekenning in 2020 ontvang.[13] [14] kort nadat sy matriek geslaag het, het sy in film en media aan die Universiteit van Kaapstad begin studeer.[15]
