Herbie Hancock
Herbert Jeffrey Hancock (gebore op 12 April 1940) is 'n Amerikaanse pianis, komponis, en akteur.[1] Hancock het sy loopbaan begin saam met Donald Byrd. Kort daarna het hy aangesluit by die Miles Davis Kwintet, waar hy 'n bydra gelewer het om die rol van die jazz ritme-afdeling te herdefinieer, en een van die hoof rolspelers van die post-bop klank was. In die 1970's het Hancock geëksperimenteer met jazz fusion, funk en electro-funk style.

Hancock se bekendste komposisies, wat standaardwerke in die jazz repertorium is, sluit in "Cantaloupe Island", "Watermelon Man", "Maiden Voyage" en "Chameleon" sowel as die treffer-enkelsnitte "I Thought It Was You" en "Rockit". Sy 2007 album getiteld River: The Joni Letters het die 2008 Grammy-toekenning vir die album van die jaar gewen, wat dit slegs die tweede jazz album gemaak het om die prys te wen, na Getz/Gilberto in 1965.
Hancock dien sedert 2012 as professor aan die Universiteit van Kalifornië, Los Angeles, waar hy klas gee aan die UCLA Herb Alpert musiekskool.[2] Hy is ook die voorsitter van die Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz[2] (tot 2019 bekend as die Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz).
