Lyn 160:
In haar boek ''Some South African recollections'', wat in 1900 in Londen gepubliseer is, skryf Florence Phillips oor die [[Gereformeerde Kerke in Suid-Afrika|Doppers]], van wie pres. [[Paul Kruger]] die bekendste was: “''The Dopper persuasion, of which Kruger is a member, is not that to which the great mass of the Dutch population subscribes, but more resembles the Quakers, and to that sect as a rule only the very poor and ignorant class of Boer belongs. The Doppers are much more primitive in their way of life, and it is no uncommon thing for all the members of a family, representing three generations, to sleep in one room, and their uncleanness of body is only equalled by their dull immorality.''” (Waarmee sy waarskynlik ''morality'' bedoel het.)
In dieselfde boek vra sy van die "lui" Transvalers wat “net wil rondsit en pyp rook en slegte koffie drink”:
