Making changing categories easier

Today's conversations took place all over this Wiki, so I just wanted to make sure you're up to date:

1. Regarding Beeld:Suider-Afrika Kaart2.jpg: did you really create it yourself? "Create", in this instance, means draw it from scratch, not scanning it from a book. Please make it clear on the image's description page which is the case.
2. If you did not draw/paint it yourself, you need to acknowledge the author/source (in other words, the book/website you got it from).
3. Most images are subject to copyright, meaning that it is not allowed to reproduce them (as we're doing here) without explicit permission from the author. Since Wikipedia is a free encyclopaedia and we don't want our users to worry about such things, we can only accept certain "copyleft" images. These images usually have a special license (see here for some well-known ones we allow), or they have been released/fallen into the "public domain". The vast majority of books (including the images and texts they contain) enjoy full copyright, as do most websites. Certain websites have started to embrace free licenses, but you need to make sure of it. If you can't find mention of a specific free license, then you must assume the work retains its full copyright.
4. For an image to be chosen as image of the week, it must have already achieved featured status at the Wikimedia Commons. See Commons:Commons:Featured pictures for all the featured pictures they have so far. You can also nominate new pictures for featured status, or support the nominations of others. Any picture that has been awarded "featured picture" status on the Wikimedia Commons can be used as a "beeld van die week" at this Wiki.

Nominating an image for featured status

Hi, Ben

For "image of the week" users are invited to pick any one they like from the featured pictures at the Wikimedia Commons. If you want to use a picture such as Image:OrangeRiverUpington.jpg, which doesn't have Featured Status, you can nominate it at the Commons. Please note the guidelines before nominating. The reason we do it this way is

1. to encourage interaction between the encyclopaedia (Wikipedia) and the image server (Wikimedia Commons)
2. to have a large audience with a wide range of expertise available who can nominate/support these images. This way "Featured Status" is more select/elite.

Sometimes a nomination goes well, as these of mine did 1, 2 and 3, but it often happens that you don't gather enough support, as with this one, which is still one of my favourite pictures. Anrie (kontak) 15:46, 27 Oktober 2008 (UTC)

To add, in regard to Image:OrangeRiverUpington.jpg, you should know that because of the amount of spectacular images of sunsets (Image:Sunset may 2006 panorama.jpg, Image:Reflected sunset.jpg and Image:Crepuscular ray sunset from telstra tower edit.jpg to name a few), other pictures of sunsets are held against very high standards when it comes to new nominations. Regarding disambiguity pages ("dubbelsinnigheidsbladsye"): if it only contains red link, they usually get deleted without discussion. Capital letters

Tip: only use a capital letter if you would've used a capital letter in English also. In other words: beginning of sentences and "proper" nouns, i.e. names of places/people/etc. Not with regular nouns, like "elektrisiteit" and "kilometer".

The only place Afrikaanse varies from English in this case is with titles: compare "Fiela's Child" with "Fiela se kind" (only the first letter of the first word is capitalised). Regards, Anrie (kontak) 21:42, 5 Desember 2008 (UTC)

Deleting discussions

We don't simply delete discussions here: everything is archived (you'll notice that Byeboer promptly put it back as well.

For these type of discussions, unsuccessful nominations are moved to Wikipedia:Onsuksesvolle_voorbladnominasies. This is a handy list for people who don't want to start a new article from scratch, but rather want to improve existing articles till they're "voorbladstatus". For example, I originally opposed the nomination of Maanlanding because it didn't have any sources listed. Later (when I had the time), I went and looked for sources and then added them to the article. After which we promoted it. Hope this makes it clear. Anrie (kontak) 09:01, 11 Januarie 2009 (UTC)

I know of a user who does, but then you're also deleting other people's comments, which isn't ideal. A better way is to archive it: every now and then I archive the oldest discussions on my talk page to a subpage, such as Gebruikerbespreking:Anrie/Argief2Junie2007 (just cutting and pasting). Hallo, ek is ontevrede oor jou skuif van Kent na Kent, band. Ek voel jy moes die kwessie eers op die besprekingsbladsy bespreek het. Ek weet jy probeer "bold" wees, en dit is ook goed so, maar laat my toe om besware te lug. Die artikelnaam wat jy gekies het was bo alles verkeerd; ons gebruik nie die woord "band" in die ensiklopedie nie - dit is omgangstaal en ons hou by "musiekgroep" of 'n sinoniem wat reeds in die vaktaal ingeburger is. Verder is die formaat van » naam, beskrywing « nie volgens konvensie nie, maar eerder moet die verklarende woord tussen hakies gestel word. Dit is die swaarste van my besware. Ander kleinighede is die hoop dat jy met die skuif 'n artikel oor die graafskap in Engeland gaan skryf, andersinds bestaan daar geen dubbelsinngheid nie en kan die musiekgroep onmoontlik "minder belangrik" as 'n graafskap in Engeland wees waarvan die artikel nie eens bestaan nie. Verder is dit soms ongerieflik vir gebruikers wanneer bladsye geskuif word waaraan hulle werk. Dit is iets wat ek gereeld gedoen het, totdat ek sélf voor wysigingskonflikte te staan gekom het. Ek verstaan dus jou situasie, en dis hoekom ek vir jou my beswaartjies verduidelik. Met al hierdie in ag geneem, glo ek dus dat dit altyd die beste opsie sal wees om sulke skuiwe eers op die besprekingsbladsy te bespreek — daarmee sal jy altyd sekerheid verwerf. Jy hoef nie eers 'n beeld te nomineer nie. Jy kan bloot 'n nuwe sjabloon skep soos jy met Wikipedia:Voorbladbeeld week 8 2009 en Wikipedia:Voorbladbeeld week 6 2009 gemaak het. Auto Wiki Browser

Hi Ben,

Die maklikste om te begin is (vir v4.60):

1. Teken in deur AWB (File -> Login)
2. Stel die blaaier dat dit die afrikaanse wikipedia gebruik (Options -> Preferences -> Site, stel language na "af").
3. Onder "Makelist" op hoofblad kies "Category" en tik dan bv. "Rugby" in die veld onder dit.
4. Kliek op "Makelist" knoppie.

Nou sal daar 'n lys verskyn met al die blaaie gelys onder kategorie:rugby.

Onder die "tabs" net regs hiervan kan nou vele opsies gekies word om uit te voer op die lys. Bv. "Find and Replace" deur 'n algemene spelfout reg te maak ens.

Speel dan maar bietjie daarmee en lees gerus ook hier.

Ek sien jy is besig om 'n paar artikels oor S.A. Dorpe te skryf. In plaas van om die dorp inligting in 'n tabel te plaas gebruik asseblief eerder die Sjabloon:Inligtingskas Nedersetting.
