Suid-Afrika se algemene verkiesing vir 'n nuwe Nasionale Vergadering en provinsiale wetgewers is op 22 April 2009 gehou.

Suid-Afrikaanse stembrief van 2009

Die Nasionale Vergadering bestaan uit 400 lede wat deur proporsionele verteenwoordiging gekies word. Die Nasionale Vergadering wys ná die verkiesing die nuwe President van Suid-Afrika aan.

Meer as 23 miljoen burgers het geregistreer om te stem, waarvan 16 000 oorsese Suid-Afrikaners was. Die Pretoriase Hooggeregshof het op 9 Februarie 2009 beveel dat alle oorsese Suid-Afrikaners in die verkiesing mag stem. Dié besluit is deur die Konstitusionele Hof beaam toe dit op 12 Maart 2009 beslis het dat oorsese burgers wat reeds geregistreer is in die verkiesing mag stem.

Daar was 40 partye waarvoor kiesers kon stem, waarvan 26 op nasionale vlak. Die drie partye wat, soos verwag is, die hoofspelers in die verkiesing was, was die African National Congress onder leiding van mnr. Jacob Zuma, die Demokratiese Alliansie onder leiding van me. Helen Zille, en die Congress of the People onder leiding van mnr. Mosiuoa Lekota.
